Schengen at strain?

What is happening to the Schengen borders? Is Schengen in ‘crisis’? This lunchtime policy seminar examines the state of play and latest developments in the Schengen system during 2015 and 2016.

Particular attention will be paid to the refugee crisis effects on the Schengen system, and the reintroduction of internal border controls by certain EU Member States. The policy seminar will also cover the recent proposal for establishing a common European border and coast guard and other initiatives focused on strengthening the Schengen external borders.
The Policy Seminar will also look at the role of democratic accountability and the European Parliament in these debates and proposals.
