New online course for engineers and designers in the making

On Nov 26th, IES researchers Prof. Dr. Christof Roos, Ólöf Söebech and Laraine D’Antin organised a first brainstorming workshop for a new course on “Security and Society for Engineers and Designers.

Our partners from TNO in the Netherlands, Vicesse in Austria, Tecnalia in Spain, FOI in Sweden and EOS here in Brussels joined for a day of creative and constructive course design workshop.

The IES is involved in the FP7 project SOURCE, a network of excellence on societal security. As a part of this project, we are in charge of creating several online training courses. The first course that will be developed for the project will be an online training course for engineers and designers on the topic of security and society. More specifically users of the course will be invited to broaden their experience of their field of engineering and design to look at the overall potential impact of their work on the society as a whole, with a special focus on security related innovation. The course will include sessions on societal impact assessment, privacy by design, methods and practical ways to analyse innovative security rerated products and services.
